Yep, I recently successfully applied for the position of 2nd line Support Analyst with a different employer. Got offered the job within 5 minutes of the end of the interview. Nice. More money, better job, cute receptionists (Jane'll probably make me edit that bit when she reads this!), better working conditions etc etc. Also, it's a return to a varied working pattern. I am likely to have some really early starts and really late finishes and weekends. To be honest, this appeals as sometimes it's nice to have a "free" day off mid week to sit at home and watch movies, do chores etc. Very much looking forward to it. Location is the other side of town completely, but the tram goes from virtually outside my house and to within 5 minutes walk from their building in a journey time of 46 minutes. Excellent.
Having now received the contract and handed in my notice to my current employer, I can announce/celebrate. Mine's a pint...
Edit: Just to keep track, we now have a countdown timer on the right.

Jane's just left for a week, so I am alone with PC and beer. There could be a lot of posts this week....
Let's get the ball rolling with BoingBoing which I've found through Engadget.com. I particulary like the iTrip Incinerator and the Pez MP3 player.
iPod Integration for Audioscrobbler arrives!
I've been a fan of Audioscrobbler for a while. There's a plug-in for most popular music players that uploads details of what you've been listening to on your PC to their database. The aim? Well, it forms a "picture" of music you like and creates you "Musical Neighbours" who have similar tastes. You can make friends (if you wish) or just look at what people with your taste in music are listening to and discover new artists you will probably like. Brilliant. Except for one thing - I do most of listening on my iPod, and until now there was no decent way of uploading that information to Audioscrobbler.
Then along came someone called Muti who posted this thread in Audioscrobbler's forums. Whilst not a "one-click" solution, it works and is relatively simple. Joy. Now you can find out what I've been listening to recently here - no giggling at the back please.
Random webcams for those voyeuristic moments, including a shot of the inside of Plusnet in Sheffield. Don't know why the name rings a bell, perhaps someone I know works there? Either way, it looks pretty cramped to me.

Manufacturer: Nestle
Product: Ice Cool Mint Yorkie
Manufacturer's Description: "Too Cool For Girls"
Fat per 61g bar: 17.7g
Calories per 61g bar: 326 calories
"Mint Yorkie? Yep, I'll be having one of them please" were the words uttered upon spotting this edition to the unchanged-for-some-time Yorkie line-up. Raisin and Biscuit would be hard to surpass, but I gave this a go.
Snapping off a chunk of this chunky treat (in my best trucker fashion) reveals the secret of the mintiness - little blue crystal-like pieces of something or other. Essentially, it looks like one of those little disinfectant lumps that are put in gent's urinals has fallen into the vat of Yorkie chocolate and no one noticed. Not overly appealing. In the name of consumerism, I braved this visual obstacle and gave it a taste. The mintiness isn't really there, it's more of a hint of a whiff of spearmint. Not what I was expecting. The KitKat mint editions were much mintier and from the same stable. I was left feeling a little cheated. Given the choice, I will be buying Raisin and Biscuit.
Points - 5/10, the Yorkie brand needs something new, but this just isn't it.
Jane says - "I wish you hadn't told me those bits look like urinal tablets, I feel queasy now" Oh dear. Still, as a girl, she shouldn't have even been allowed a bit of Yorkie.

What an afternoon! I read on the Sheffield Forum that my house may be flooded. Little bit of a panic as eggsareevil.com resides on a server in the cellar. Thoughts like "I really should have put the server higher off the ground" went through my brain. Still, it appeared to be running OK. When the water pressure dropped substantially at work I thought it best to see if I could get home. I broke the land speed record to get home (no point using bus or tram as roads gridlocked). We escaped OK, amazing considering that estimates are that 250,000 cubic metres of water decided to escape. Sadly, some of the houses actually on Holme Lane have had their cellars flooded. We were OK though. Phew. Panic over. Shower and beer now I think.
Edit - story now on BBC
Further edit - Sheffield Forum's Lalaland has a picture here. Yes, that is the bottom of my road.
Another edit - Oh dear. There's a big hole that I'm worried my local pub will fall into, picture here

I was going to write a bit about Podcasting today. But I think it's all be written before. Like here.
I too am now a convert and Podcasts are likely to be the main content I listen to on the way to work now. Just waiting for BBC to extend their Podcast pilot to include more material. Oh and there's even a Windows Smartphone version.
