Murray is now 29cm high. No sign of a chilli yet though. Just lots of aphids that I am treating him for.

I arrived home last night to find that my front door key wouldn't turn. This was somewhat upsetting as the back door broke on Friday the 13th. The words uttered weren't for delicate ears. Several minutes of patient, gentle wiggling of the key with my (oft remarked upon) surgeon-like dexterity were to no avail. Also ineffectual was the two handed swinging from the door handle and kicking the hell out of it whilst interspersing gentle sobs with vehement foul language. It seemed I was doomed to that most embarrassing of neighbourhood acts - breaking into my own house like some idiot who has locked himself out. I was busy concerning myself with how I could best throw a brick through the window in a way that says "Look, yes it is my house, no I haven't locked myself out like a dimwit - BOTH locks have broken. Really", when it miracuously sprung open. Relief (not least because I'm not too sure where I'd have got a brick from).
Off to work I went today, tasked with ensuring a locksmith visits this evening and rectifies at least one of the issues. I also prayed that the spare front door key I had would definitely be able to open the front door on my return.
All was not smooth however. I arrived home at 16:30 to find that I was unable to open the front door with the spare key. This was mainly due to the fact that the spare key was sitting in the kitchen. Along with all my other keys. I could see them through the back window, laughing at me. The air turned blue. Very dark blue. Almost purple. Then I calmed myself. After all, I had already made an appointment for a locksmith. How many people book him in advance I wonder?
Anyway, it's all sorted now - amazing what 10 seconds and an angle grinder can do. Sadly, I am considerably lighter in the cash department than I was this morning. I may take up locksmithing (locksmithery?) as a profit-making sideline.
Here is my (now open) door:
Ardbeg now and a sit down I feel.
Manufacturer: Nestle
Product: KitKat Caramac
Bar size: 48g
Fat: 14.1g
Calories: 259
Manufacturer's Description: "Four crisp fingers with a caramel flavour coating (66%)"
Oh, now we've started.
I can't think of any other variety of chocolate bar being mixed with another. Sure there's Snickers flapjacks etc but the flapjack isn't branded. This intrigues me.
Caramac for me has always been a bit like Dime bars and Fry's Turkish Delight - it's good to know that they're there (usually on the bottom shelf) if you ever want one, but you rarely do. Every now and then I'll say "ooh, it's ages since I had a Caramac" and take one off the shelf, but we're probably talking once a year, if that. Now Nestle have struck on an idea - take the nation's most popular chocolate bar and fuse it with one of the runts of the litter. And it works. I fell for it.
The genius in the marketing here is that this should really be called Caramac KitKat as it is Caramac covered wafers. The only thing KitKat about it is the shape. Nice move.
Taste wise this is what you would expect. Very pleasant, smooth Caramac with wafers adding crunch.
This bar rocks.
Jane says: "That sounds interesting". Sadly, she was too slow and so hasn't tasted it.
Points: 9.5/10 (would have been 10/10 were it not for my dislike of Nestle)
Here he is then. Murray, my new chilli plant. Lovingly grown from a seed by Ms Bewsey. We will be following his progress on this site. Today, he stands at 27cm from soil to the top of his stem. He seems to grow a good couple of millimetres a day. I can't wait for my own chillies (assuming he makes it into adulthood). We're not too sure where to put him yet, but he seems quite happy in the kitchen for the moment.
