AvantGo for Windows Smartphone!
Wednesday, March 29, 2006
I was a big fan of AvantGo back in the days of my Palm PDA. It allowed you to "sync" various websites while your PDA was attached to your PC (and hence it's internet connection) for later reading on the move (or the loo). The advantage being that you can then browse those websites on your portable device without paying the ridiculous mobile access data charges we have put up with.
Sadly, there wasn't been a version of AvantGo for my mobile device of choice (an Orange SPV C550).
That is until now!
If you've got a Windows Smartphone, head over to Avantgo and get yourself sorted!
I was particularly pleased to see that my 4 year-old account with them is still active.

Should I be worried?
Mmmmm. Something's concerning me a little today. My company's been undergoing a lot of change recently.
A couple of weeks ago some folks came in and measured the office. I joked that perhaps the building's for sale.
I shouldn't have joked.
Tonight I've found an advert online - "New office building ready for immediate occupation..."
Could be an interesting conversation with my manager tomorrow.

Careful now
Apparently we now even need protecting from ourselves when taking a bath. Just to be extra sure, I will be spending Sunday putting foam on any sharp corners in my house an blunting all our kitchen knives.
I am staggered that our elected MP's would even contemplate a debate on such a non-issue.

Things not to do
Friday, March 24, 2006
I have just tried to blow some of the old coffee out of my electic coffee griner. I failed to close my eyes. I have been in a lot of pain, unable to see and spent 10 minutes rinsing coffee grit out of my eye.
To be avoided.

Confusing Holes
Monday, March 13, 2006
It's the little things that confuse me. I like to think most things are done for a reason. But every now and then something little seems so nonsensical that trying to determine the purpose preoccupies me for far too long.
Over the last week Moss Way tram stop has been the scene of feverish work. Not in a big way, but in a confusing way. Someone has been drilling. They've drilled a hole in the centre of every slab at the edge of the platform. Then they've come back a few days later and filled them in.
Now, as much as I would like a job where you're given an industrial drill and told to go and drill a load of holes and then fill them in, I can't understand what on Earth these holes are for. Ideas?

Edit: I've had an email back from Stagecoach:
"Thank you for your email.
The work being carried out is to prevent the front tramstop slabs moving forward. This happens due to expansion when the slabs get warm in the summer. This work will be carried out at all tramstops and involves a hole being drilled then a steel bolt is grouted into the slab and the earth below stopping the movement.
I hope that this has answered your question.
Regards.

So now I know.

Well you'd have to try it, wouldn't you?

The customer is always right
Friday, March 10, 2006

You may recall I was somewhat angry at KFC for daring to start charging 10p for a sachet of ketchup. I am pleased to report that this appears to have been stopped. I would like to think that my uncharacteristically grumpy, angry complaint was instrumental in drilling home the message that the customer is always right.
Condiments should be free. End of.

Please settle!
Friday, March 03, 2006

I have to be at work at 07:00 tomorrow. I have to get the tram as Jane needs the car. If this keeps up I'll be mostly not bothering. Please, please settle!
Edit: I've just worked out why it has snowed tonight. It'll be because I have to be at the pub in a minute and last night I stowed my hefty outdoor-for-walking-in-the-snow boots at the very back of my wardrobe under all kinds of junk. I asked for it really.
