Under Construction (again!)

Monday, November 13, 2006

It's been a while since I had to rebuild the blog from scratch again, but that time is here. Over the weekend my internet connection got upgraded from a rather dismal 0.3Meg to 9.3Meg. Quite a jump. The reason for this: we've switched to Telewest for broadband, TV and phone. We previously had BT (phone), Sky (TV) and BT/Zen (internet). My internet got upgraded a few months back and has never been right. Time to bite the bullet and switch them all.
Some of this was painless - the phone is on the same number and was an instant switchover, the TV was much the same (we'll just not have the opportunity to watch a few of the recordings that Sky+ had made before fully decommissioning the box).
The internet is (and was always going to be) the pain. The service from Telewest has been excellent so far - all I had to do was plug in and I was online. It's the internal configuration of my own making that's going to be the headache. For instance, this website is currently hosted on my old ISP's webservers. It will get deleted on Friday when my contract with them expires. I've got until then to move it. Also thrown into the mix is a new server at home that needs to be configured and migrated onto (thanks to Tim for some hand-me-down hardware) and that I'm also completely changing my internal IP and DNS setup (with help from Tim again as DNS frustrates me) and I'm confronted with a week of tinkering to get everything working again.
Might change the website look too. Wish me luck!
