My new favourite website

Thursday, February 22, 2007

G-man pointed me in the direction of HolyMoly this week. It's been a while since I laughed so much. It does have some rude words though.
Very firmly added to my RSS's.

Whisky Tasting

Monday, February 12, 2007

What a cool weekend. Jane was away visiting Jo and Rob. So I spent Friday night watching near-accidents outside the pub - special mention should go to the Ford Escort driver who reckoned the way to drive in snow and ice was to have it in reverse, roll down the hill and whenever the car starts to slide, floor the accelerator and remove foot from clutch. Nobhead.
Saturday was muchos patatas bravas (and others) at Spinrocs, followed by whisky tasting at Chris'. Seven men, eighteen bottles of whisky. You know it's going to be good. Very civilised (apart from the bizarre Ardbeg dance) and I managed to have a "party kip" without being photographed. I think, however that Caol Ila 18 year old is still my most favourite whisky ever. As my experience broadens, we'll see if that changes.

We're in the Anvil, watching people with no idea how to drive sliding across the junction. Only a matter of time till someone hits a car...

Squash

Monday, February 05, 2007

There's a bottle of orange squash on top of one of the fridges at work. It has a "Best Before" of 2004. I wonder who I can make drink it?

Bus crash

As I cycled in this morning I was surprised to see a lot of trams stopped and not moving. Getting closed to Tesco on Infirmary Road I could see a lot of obviously perplexed drivers and then a lot of flashing blue lights. Looks like two buses have crashed at the junction of Henry Street and Penistone Road. I hope no one is seriously hurt.

You'll have to forgive the shocking quality camera-phone picture!

Edit: Sheffield Forum thread here.

Chillies

Friday, February 02, 2007

Last year Jim & Charlotte gave me a chilli plant. I named him Murray. Sadly my novice horticulture skills resulted in a massive, dead plant and no chillies. This year I intend to do better. A couple of weeks ago I bought myself some seeds. I've read the instructions and am confident of success. In some of my seed trays I planted two or three seeds as I figured they wouldn't all hatch. They have. I don't know quite what to do. I will be looking to give away quite a few of these as they reach a suitable size. I will also be trying to avoid the use of pesticides and artificial fertilisers in order to be a bit green.

Pitlochry and stuff

Thursday, February 01, 2007

What a week! Last Thursday night we went to see Ben Folds at the City Hall. Great gig. Go and see him if you get the chance. But try to be less tired than we were.
Then it was off to Scotland to surprise Rachel for her birthday. The photos I took are here. It was in the B&B that we sat on the table next to Ronnie Corbett for breakfast.

And this week, Ryan and Mark have announced creations of their own blogs. Not sure I approve. Either way, I've added them to my Links bit on the left. I've also added "t'other Jane" and Tracy.
